About LiDAR & point clouds

A LiDAR survey captures millions of laser-measured points that describe the precise shape of a building, a plant, a road corridor or an entire landscape. Surveyors, engineers, architects, manufacturers and real-time studios rely on that data to design against existing conditions, monitor deformation, plan infrastructure or build a realistic 3D environment. This subcategory covers both capture and, just as importantly, point cloud processing.

Typical work includes registering dozens of terrestrial scan stations into a single cloud, removing noise and passersby, classifying ground, vegetation and buildings in drone or airborne data, decimating dense clouds and exporting to the format your team uses: E57, LAS or LAZ, or RCP for Autodesk tools. Specialists work in Cyclone, ReCap, CloudCompare, Trimble RealWorks or Terrasolid, and can mesh the cloud for Unreal Engine or Blender. Share your raw files or the scanner model, the coordinate system, the density you need and the software where the data will end up. For aerial data, mention the flight altitude and the sensor as well.

On hi-3d, you browse LiDAR and point cloud services, compare portfolios, rates and turnaround, then invite the specialist whose experience matches your dataset. Large file transfers and technical questions are handled in the project conversation. You review a processed preview or a sample area, request adjustments during revision rounds and receive the final delivery once everything checks out.

Before you invite anyone, confirm they have already delivered a LiDAR survey in your format and software, since a poorly georeferenced file slows down every trade downstream. It is also worth asking how they document registration accuracy. When you need the cloud turned into a model, our Scan-to-BIM subcategory picks up from there. Browse the specialists in 3D Scanning & Drone Survey and start a conversation.
