About Photogrammetry & drones

Drone photogrammetry reconstructs a site, a building or an object in 3D from hundreds of overlapping photos taken from the air or on the ground. Developers, architects, municipalities, insurers and civil engineering contractors use it to get a measurable picture of a parcel before design starts, track progress on a jobsite, support a permit application or keep a faithful record of a historic structure. It sits within our 3D Scanning & Drone Survey category, alongside laser scanning and point cloud work.

Typical deliverables include a georeferenced orthomosaic, a digital terrain or surface model, a textured mesh in OBJ or FBX, a dense point cloud and, when needed, contour lines ready for AutoCAD or GIS. Processing usually runs in Metashape, Pix4D or RealityCapture. For a flight, the pilot needs the exact address, the area to cover, any airspace restrictions and the accuracy you expect; ground control points can be added when the model has to sit in a specific coordinate system. If you already have photos, you can also hire someone for processing only.

On hi-3d, you browse photogrammetry services from independent pilots and 3D artists, compare portfolios, rates and lead times, and invite the one that suits the job. Flight planning, file transfers and questions all live in the project conversation. You review a preview of the model, request changes during revision rounds and download the final package once you approve it.

A common scenario: a developer wants to drop a future tower into a realistic aerial view of the neighborhood. A drone photogrammetry capture provides the textured terrain, and an archviz artist then places the building model on it for marketing images. For interiors that need room-by-room precision, laser scanning is usually the better fit. Explore the specialists in this subcategory and send your first invitation.
